I have completed my PhD from Department of Food Technology, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, Haryana in the year 2018. I graduated with Masters’ in Food Technology (2010-2012) with major subjects as Food chemistry, food processing and preservation, food microbiology, and bioprocess technology from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, Haryana, India.
I have abundant experience in working with plant proteins. During my PhD tenure, I carried out the purification and characterization of low molecular weight glutenin subunits (LMW-GS) from wheat varieties. I devised a methodology for purifying these native LMW-GS without the use of a reducing agent and characterized them for their secondary structure and thermal behaviour. Further, the effects of LMW-GS were investigated on dough rheology and noodle quality. The project helped in gaining hands-on experience in the tools and techniques involved in the isolation and purification of proteins and their structural and thermal detailing. I have an experience to work on different chromatographic techniques (ion-exchange, size-exclusion and gas chromatography), LC-MS, FTIR, SEM, DSC, SDS-PAGE and very well-versed with the fundamentals of these techniques. Recently, I had worked on physicochemical, nutritional, and functional characterization of black wheat. Having worked in this dynamic field with active involvement in writing research papers, I realized that I have an orientation towards research and writing. So, I am now looking to use the knowledge gained so far in advancing my career in research alongside teaching. In addition, I have contributed to multiple manuscripts published in reputed peer-reviewed journals. I have supervised two master dissertation students.
In addition to this extensive protein research experience, I also have strong administrative, problem solving and time management skills. I have worked as part of a group during master’s and doctoral studies and feel comfortable as part of a team due to my interpersonal and communication skills. I am equally comfortable pursuing research independently and as a part of team.
